On May 18th 2009, Federal Minister Annette Schavan announced the initiatives that will be sponsored in the second turn of the program "Spitzenforschung und Innovation in den Neuen Ländern". The "Lab in a Hankie" - one of eleven projects of this initiative - evocated from the beginning lively public interest. This interest could be ascribed to the well chosen title, which highlights the potential to use the developed technologies for the easy detection of different pathogens. As a result, the "Lab in a Hankie" was not only mentioned in press releases from the Federal Ministry but also noted in different newspapers.
